MATARA'S RESTORATIVE GARDENS
'When did you stop dancing?
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?
Where we have stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul.
Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are the four universal healing salves.'
In many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of these four questions.
Here at Matara we believe in the power of gardens as a restorative tool towards a sense of vitality and well being. Like many, we believe that self healing can be achieved through immersion in nature. It is with these beliefs we develop and maintain our gardens and parklands creating a restorative environment to rest, renew and connect people and place.
The sensory stimulation, beauty and wonder that a restorative garden offers delights children, relaxes their parents, and gives hope to both the youth and the elderly.
In family gatherings such as weddings, this connection in nature can bring about a sense of oneness, where people feel connected to one another and the natural worlds we share. Matara's buildings are intertwined with nature blurring the lines of inside and out, making this connection effortless and natural.
If you are a person recovering from an illness, practising preventive health care and self-healing, a person needing relief from the stresses of a job, a family seeking social support, a child in need of fresh air and a place to explore, or just desiring respite from a fragmented world, Matara’s restorative gardens provide the place for this.
A place to dance
Matara's gardens are a place to dance and to watch nature's dance. Come sit in the wildflower meadow and watch the butterflies dance and float in the winds.
A place to sing
Sit very still. There is a place in woods that we are developing as a bird sanctuary. Sit on the outskirts of this circle and listen to the birds sing.
A place to be enchanted
The beauty of the natural world captivates the human mind. It may be because we are part of nature and feel at home. At Matara there are wonders around every corner, come find your own story.
A place to be comforted by the sweet sound of silence
Is there a better place to find the sweetness in the sound of silence than in a beautiful garden? Matara is a great place to explore the comfort and restorative sense given by being in silence with nature.
The beauty of the natural world captivates the human mind. Perhaps because we are part of nature and feel at home.
When everything comes together harmoniously, it creates a perfect balance that exceeds your expectations.
