A Special Family Reunion

When the restrictions began to lift in May we were very happy to be able to reopen Matara's parklands, woodlands, and gardens to the public. Geoffrey, Matara's founder, is a strong believer in connecting with nature as a means to slowdown and reflect on what is important in life.

Jimmy Edmonds of the Good Grief Project and his family were able to come together at Matara after being separated during lockdown. Here he shares his experience. We hope that you find time to come up and explore Matara yourselves soon.

A Special Family Reunion

by Jimmy Edmunds

After 3 long months in lockdown we were able to have our first longed for family get together at this breathtaking and restorative venue in Gloucestershire and we cant express how grateful we are to Geoffrey and all the friendly staff at Matara for solving our problem of how and where to meet in a safe and socially distanced environment.

This wonderful tranquil venue is very special to us as for many reasons and its where 10 years ago we held a  celebration of our son Josh’s life which has helped us enormously on our grieving journey.  It is also where his memorial bench 'lives’ which has made this venue even more special to all of our friends and family.

Our grown up children travelled from London and Exeter with our 2 grandchildren who until lockdown we had seen regularly and who were very much at the centre of our lives.

To be able to meet in such a calm and beautiful setting filled every one of us with immense gratitude and joy.

We sat in the beautiful courtyard and had socially distanced picnics, wandered round the magical woods, the maze and grounds, the wildflower meadow and beautifully maintained gardens.   Our 2 year old granddaughter Elsie was particularly taken with how friendly the fish in the pond were.

We couldn’t have found a better venue and we are so grateful to Geoffrey and the staff at Matara for welcoming us so generously and wholeheartedly.

Needless to say there were tears and laughter as new and happy memories were created after such a long time apart.

With thanks

Jane Harris Jimmy Edmonds with Joe, Hollie, Rosa, Elsie, Martha, Sam
